What mucuna pruriens dosage did studies use?
The best-known study used 15 g and 30 g of mucuna seed powder, single doses, in eight people with Parkinson disease (Katzenschlager 2004, Mucuna in Parkinson Disease (JNNP)). The comparison drug was 200 mg of levodopa with 50 mg of carbidopa.
The 30 g dose reached blood L-dopa faster than the drug (34.6 vs 68.5 minutes), with a peak 110% higher. That shows seed powder at gram doses delivers real L-dopa. It is why mucuna is treated as a dopamine-active substance.
A study of infertile men reported higher testosterone and LH, and better sperm count and motility, after mucuna treatment (Shukla 2009, Mucuna and Male Fertility (Fertil Steril)). Its abstract gives no dose, and it had no placebo group. It did not measure erections.
