Mucuna Pruriens for Men: What 9.8 mg of L-DOPA Per Gummy Means
Mucuna pruriens for men is a velvet bean seed extract sold as a sexual-health ingredient. A HoneyBoost gummy prints 10 mg of it, standardized to 98% L-DOPA, so 9.8 mg of L-DOPA. The Parkinson's study used 15 to 30 g of seed powder, and no study measured erections.

The ingredient01
What is mucuna pruriens for men?
Mucuna pruriens is a tropical climbing bean, also called velvet bean. Its seeds are a natural source of L-DOPA, the compound the body turns into dopamine, and supplement makers sell the seed extract for men's formulas.
The HoneyBoost label lists it as "Mucuna (Mucuna pruriens) Seed Extract standardized to 98% L-DOPA, 10 mg (9.8 mg L-DOPA)." That is line six of seven. The amount is printed, as every line is.
L-DOPA is also the name of a drug ingredient. Prescription levodopa is a Parkinson's disease medicine, and that is why mucuna needs more care than most herbs on this label. The label itself says to consult a physician before use and not to take it with other medications.
| Name on the label | Mucuna (Mucuna pruriens) Seed Extract standardized to 98% L-DOPA, 10 mg (9.8 mg L-DOPA) |
|---|---|
| What it is | Velvet bean seed (Mucuna pruriens), a natural source of L-DOPA |
| Printed amount per gummy | 10 mg of extract printed, with 9.8 mg of L-DOPA |
| Plant equivalent on the label | 98% L-DOPA, 9.8 mg L-DOPA |
| Amount used in research | 15 g or 30 g of mucuna seed powder, as single doses, in a Parkinson's disease trial that compared it with the drug levodopa |
| Strength of evidence | One study in infertile men and one in Parkinson's disease; none measured erections |
| Main caution | L-DOPA is a drug ingredient. It can interact with Parkinson's medicine, MAO inhibitors, antipsychotics and blood pressure or diabetes medicine; ask a doctor or pharmacist first. |
The research02
Does mucuna pruriens work for men?
No study of mucuna for erections exists, and none of HoneyBoost. What exists is one Parkinson's trial and one fertility study.
The Parkinson's trial was small. Eight patients completed a crossover test of 15 g and 30 g of mucuna seed powder against the standard levodopa and carbidopa drug. The 30 g dose reached the blood faster, and peak L-dopa was 110% higher than with the drug (Katzenschlager 2004, Mucuna in Parkinson Disease (JNNP)). It shows that gram doses of seed powder deliver real L-dopa. It is not a sexual-function study.
The fertility study followed 75 men undergoing infertility screening. After mucuna treatment, their testosterone, LH, and sperm count and motility were reported as higher than before (Shukla 2009, Mucuna and Male Fertility (Fertil Steril)). It had no placebo arm and did not measure erections. It tells us nothing about healthy men taking a gummy.
Neither study shows that mucuna improves erections, drive or testosterone in a healthy man. Neither used a 10 mg dose. We cannot say what one HoneyBoost gummy does, and the label does not claim an outcome for this line.
The numbers03
How much L-DOPA is in a HoneyBoost gummy?
One HoneyBoost gummy holds 9.8 mg of L-DOPA, from 10 mg of a 98% extract. A bottle of 30 gummies holds 294 mg in all.
Put that next to the studies. The Parkinson's trial compared the seed powder with a 200 mg levodopa dose (Katzenschlager 2004, Mucuna in Parkinson Disease (JNNP)). Nine point eight is 4.9% of 200 mg. Against 15 g of seed powder it is under one-tenth of 1% by weight.
L-DOPA content in raw seed or leaf powder varies from 1% to 7% (Aureli 2025, High-percentage L-dopa Supplements Quality). By that range, 15 g of powder would hold 150 to 1,050 mg of L-DOPA (our arithmetic). The gummy's 9.8 mg is about 0.9% to 6.5% of that. The point is the scale: the studied doses were grams, and the gummy holds milligrams.
| Item | Amount | Gummy's share |
|---|---|---|
| HoneyBoost gummy, extract | 10 mg | - |
| HoneyBoost gummy, L-DOPA | 9.8 mg | - |
| Parkinson's trial, levodopa drug | 200 mg | 4.9% |
| Parkinson's trial, seed powder | 15 g and 30 g | under 0.1% by weight |
| Fertility study | Dose not stated in the abstract | Not comparable |
Cautions04
What are the mucuna pruriens side effects and drug cautions?
No source lists the side effects of a 9.8 mg L-DOPA gummy. The cautions come from prescription levodopa, so read them as reasons to ask, not as findings about the gummy.
The levodopa drug page tells patients to inform the doctor about MAO inhibitors, a class of antidepressant and Parkinson's medicine (MedlinePlus, Levodopa and Carbidopa). It also says the drug can cause dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting on standing up quickly. Antipsychotic drugs are known to weaken levodopa's effect by blocking dopamine receptors (Lucca 2015, Haloperidol-Levodopa Interaction).
Our rule is simple. A clinician should know about any L-dopa source you take, including a supplement. Never stop or change a Parkinson's, antidepressant or antipsychotic medicine on your own. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first.
Chest pain or fainting means call 911. An erection lasting more than 4 hours needs emergency care (Mayo Clinic, Priapism). Report a bad reaction to FDA MedWatch (FDA, MedWatch).

Can you trust the amount of L-DOPA on the label?
Nobody can check it from the bottle. HoneyBoost prints 98% L-DOPA, but it publishes no lab report, so the 9.8 mg is the seller's number.
An Italian study bought four L-dopa supplements online and measured them. All contained L-dopa. The amount matched the label in some samples, while others were overdosed or underdosed (Aureli 2025, High-percentage L-dopa Supplements Quality). That was four capsule products, not gummies and not this brand.
The lot numbers on this site, HB-26/GO-7080 and HB-7080-26-GO, are seller references, not lab proof. The front also says "Lab Tested, No Artificial Additives" while the ingredient list names artificial color. We cannot reconcile that from the bottle. Ask the seller which lab tested what. See testing and quality.
Before you order06
Who should talk to a doctor before taking mucuna?
Anyone on a Parkinson's drug, an MAO inhibitor, an antipsychotic or a blood pressure or diabetes medicine should ask a doctor or pharmacist first. The label gives the same broad warning.
It reads: "WARNINGS: Do not take if pregnant, lactating, suffering from a medical condition or taking other medications. Consult a physician before using this product."
| If you | Do this |
|---|---|
| Take a Parkinson's medicine | Tell the prescriber about the gummy before the first one |
| Have erection problems | See a clinician; they can signal heart disease (Mayo Clinic, ED Symptoms and Causes) |

How does mucuna fit into the HoneyBoost label?
Mucuna is 10 mg of the 75 mg of extracts in a gummy, about 13% of that extract weight. It is one of six extract lines and no blend hides it.
The label prints no directions line, so the serving is one gummy (4.2 g) and the order desk can answer use questions. Packs start at 2 bottles for $158, and the order page states the 60-day money-back guarantee. Confirm everything at checkout (HoneyBoost sales page).

Mucuna pruriens questions
What does mucuna pruriens do in a supplement?
Mucuna pruriens seed is a natural source of L-DOPA, which the body uses to make dopamine. Studies covered Parkinson's disease and male fertility, not erections. HoneyBoost prints 10 mg of 98% extract, which is 9.8 mg of L-DOPA.
Is the L-DOPA in mucuna the same as levodopa?
L-DOPA and levodopa are the same compound. The drug is a prescription Parkinson's medicine given in measured doses. A supplement's content is set by the seller and cannot be checked from the bottle, so a clinician should know about any L-dopa source.
How much mucuna is in one HoneyBoost gummy?
One gummy holds 10 mg of mucuna seed extract standardized to 98% L-DOPA, which is 9.8 mg of L-DOPA. That is about 13% of the 75 mg of extracts per gummy. The label prints the amount.
Can mucuna pruriens interact with antidepressants?
The levodopa drug page tells patients to inform the doctor about MAO inhibitors, a class of antidepressant. No page tests HoneyBoost, so treat it as a reason to ask. Never stop an antidepressant on your own; ask your doctor or pharmacist.
How was the mucuna in HoneyBoost tested?
The bottle says "Lab Tested" but names no lab, and no report is published. An Italian study found L-dopa supplements sometimes over- or underdosed against their labels. Ask the seller for the report on your lot.
