Do “Testosterone Booster” Gummies Work? What the Studies Used

Quick answer

No study tests whether “testosterone booster” gummies work, HoneyBoost included. Studies of the usual ingredients used far larger daily amounts than a gummy holds: 200 mg of tongkat ali extract against 25 mg, and 1,500 to 5,000 mg of L-arginine against 10 mg. Results were small, mixed and mostly in special groups.

The short answer01

Do “testosterone booster” gummies work?

There is no evidence either way for a gummy, because none has been tested. For the ingredients inside, the evidence is thin and the doses are far larger than a gummy holds.

A 2024 systematic review of 52 studies on 27 proposed boosters concluded most fail to increase total testosterone. It rated tongkat ali (Eurycoma) "possibly effective" for men with late-onset low testosterone and for healthy men, and did not give maca or zinc/magnesium that rating (Morgado 2024, T-Booster Evidence Review (IJIR)).

The doses02

What doses did the studies use?

Hundreds to thousands of milligrams a day, in most cases. One HoneyBoost gummy prints 2.5 to 25 mg per line.

Printed per gummy against the amount a study used
IngredientPer gummyAmount in a studyGummy as share
Tongkat ali extract25 mg200 mg a day for 6 months (Leitao 2021, Tongkat Ali RCT in Aging Males (Maturitas))12.5%

Shares are our arithmetic. The tongkat ali trial also used training.

On a scale03

How far is one gummy from those doses?

On an honest scale, the printed amounts are thin slivers beside the studied ones.

  • L-Arginine

    0.7% of the studied amount
    Printed per gummy10 mg
1,500 to 5,000 mg a day (10 trials, 540 men with mild to moderate ED)1,500 mg

  • Tongkat ali extract

200 mg a day of Eurycoma extract for 6 months (45 men with low testosterone)200 mg

  • Maca

Printed per gummy (root equivalent)10 mg
1,500 mg a day of maca root powder for 12 weeks (healthy men); label root equivalent 100 mg1,500 mg

  • Zinc

    23% of the studied amount
    Printed per gummy2.5 mg
11 mg a day is the daily need (RDA), not a trial dose11 mg

    (NIH ODS, Zinc)

  • Horny goat weed

No human dose found to compare

Printed per gummy: 10 mg. No human trial dose found. A small printed amount is neither good nor bad on its own; there is simply nothing to measure it against. (LiverTox, Horny Goat Weed)

  • Damiana

No human dose found to compare

Printed per gummy: 10 mg. No human trial dose found. A small printed amount is neither good nor bad on its own; there is simply nothing to measure it against. (MSK, Damiana)

Honey bars: the amount printed on the label for one gummy. Amber bars: the daily amount used in the study we found, or for zinc the daily need. A studied dose says what was tested, not what works for you, and no study tested HoneyBoost.

Horny goat weed and damiana have no bar because we found no human dose.

The findings04

What did those studies find?

Small gains in narrow groups. Not one found a result for a gummy.

Tongkat ali

A pooled analysis of 5 randomized trials found higher total testosterone with Eurycoma, and said more research is required (Leisegang 2022, Eurycoma and Testosterone Meta-analysis).

Maca

In healthy men, maca raised self-rated desire after 8 weeks, and testosterone did not differ from placebo (Gonzales 2002, Maca and Sexual Desire).

Zinc

Testosterone rose in 9 marginally zinc-deficient older men after 6 months. It does not show benefit when zinc is already adequate (Prasad 1996, Zinc Status and Testosterone).

L-arginine

Trials were in men with mild to moderate ED, and desire scores did not change (Rhim 2019, Arginine and ED Meta-analysis (J Sex Med)).

What to do05

What should you do if you suspect low testosterone?

See a provider for a blood test. Do not try to fix a number with a gummy.

Keep taking prescribed medicine. Erection problems can signal heart disease or diabetes. Chest pain or fainting means 911. The label says not to take HoneyBoost with a medical condition or other medications. The panel sets 1 gummy as the serving and prints no directions line. FAQ06

HoneyBoost questions people ask

How many gummies would match a trial dose of tongkat ali?

We do not suggest using more than the serving. The arithmetic only shows scale: 200 mg of extract is eight times the 25 mg in one gummy. Ask the order desk and a doctor before taking more than one.

Does zinc in a gummy raise testosterone?

The one zinc study we cite found testosterone rose in nine marginally zinc-deficient older men after six months of about 30 mg a day. It does not show a rise in men with enough zinc. A HoneyBoost gummy has 2.5 mg, 23% of the Daily Value.

Is low testosterone treatable with supplements?

Not according to the sources we cite. Cleveland Clinic advises avoiding over-the-counter supplements if symptoms bother you and seeing a provider for blood tests. Prescription decisions belong to your clinician, and you should not stop or change any medicine on your own.
